Rugrats was one of my favourite childhood TV shows.

I remember my friend and I being ecstatic when the movie came out. I think my favourite characters were Lil and Phil, they were completely bizarre. Not sure why I chose to draw Angelica, but here she is.

In other news, I'm back on YOUTUBE - I decided that I will not resume filming beauty videos and settled for another hobby!

I am now a part of an arty-leisure youtube channel! I did a little bit of drawing as a kid but haven't been drawing since I started uni. My friend told me she started doing some speed drawing, I thought it was a wonderful idea... I have A LOT of colour crayons and pencils!! This is just for fun really, I'm not a particularly good artist - which is probably why I'm in the Health Science faculty and not the creative arts! There are 3 videos so far, this one is mine ^_^

Move Review: The Way, Way Back

Synopsis

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up and begins to finally find his place in the world—all during a summer he will never forget.

I went to the screening of The Way, Way Back last night, a movie directed by Jim Rash and Nat Faxon. . I've watched the trailer a couple of times prior to the screening, my initial reaction was "This movie reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine". The preview was relatively appealing, however I did not expect the movie to be up to par.. oh, how wrong I was!

The opening of the film defines the relationship between Trent and Duncan, from the first interaction you get a real sense of their inability to understand and communicate with each other. I also gained an insight into who Trent is and how rude and brutal he can be. I felt that Liam James' awkwardness seemed reasonably forced and unconvincing, but he got much better, you can definitely see his character building throughout the film. Toni Collette was amazing as always, she played her character well, you can visibly see and sense the period of ambivalence her character was experiencing - the constant juggle and prioritisation of her role in a relationship and her role as a mother.

 Sam Rockwell was brilliant in this film, he suited the role well - a careless, humorous, yet caring character.  Steve Carell played an authoritative figure with a fatherly facade. His character, Trent would consistently place judgement on Duncan's ability and need for improvement throughout the movie. Carell blew my mind in this film, this is the first serious role I've seen him in. His acting was so convincing that I literally hated his character, Trent. Allison Janney played the role of Trent's friend and neighbour Betty, a witty and brutally honest character with sexual undertones embedded within her dialogue. Overall, the characters were very well portrayed by each cast member. 

There was a good use of dialogue with many quotable lines and references. The comedy is multi-layered where sexual innuendos are masked within the dialogue and recognised by interpretations, therefore the film is able to reach a wider demographic and is suitable for viewers of all ages. This movie greatly exceeded my expectations!

Movie: The Way, Way Back Trailer Preview

I've been seeing trailers of The Way, Way Back on TV for the past couple of weeks, and it looks like quite a substantial movie exploring topics surrounding adolescence. A few things caught my eyes - the dry use of humour, Toni Collette and Sam Rockwell (He starred in "Choke", a movie inspired by Chuck Palahniuk's novel - I am quite a Palahniuk fan). The Way, Way Back premiered at the Sundance Festival, the movie will be realised in Australian cinemas on August 1st.

I am extremely fortunate to be invited to a screening of the film next week! ^_^ !! I am really interested to see how the movie will play out. Stay tuned for my review.

1.  Name a beauty regime you rarely do?

I've never got my nails done, my friend and I got nail art done on 2 nails for kicks.

2.  Is washing your makeup brushes something you do regularly?

I try! 

3.  How long will you last with chipped nail polish?

Forever. It doesn't bother me. I can have chipped nail polish on until every single bit of nail polish is chipped off my fingers - but I know it annoys everyone else ;P

4.  How long do you put off buying/replacing a beauty or nail polish product even if you need it?  (ie. purchasing a new topcoat or foundation etc....)

I really only buy/repurchase when I need something. However, having said that, I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I'm subscribed to Bellabox and LHI eco box (and recently LHI monthly)... :\

5.  What is your worst beauty habit?
Not shaving my legs.

6.  Name something non-beauty related that you put off doing all the time?
Fitting my doona in their covers

7.  When going out somewhere, do you leave getting ready until the last minute or not?

I'm usually pretty good with planning and organising time, so I don't tend leave it till the last minute

8.  Can you commit to spending bans?
Mmmmm.. depends. If it's on food and eating out... no.

9.  How organised is your makeup and nail polish collection?
Not very organised! All my makeup are in boxes. But I still have a lot lying around (and collecting). My nail polish is pretty organised. I only have about 4-5.

10.  What is the longest amount of time you have gone without writing a blog post?

A year? Two years? I'm not sure.

Anime Fixation

I officially survived my first week back at uni after Three months of "me-time" and 5 weeks of placement. We were bombarded with various individual and paired assignments. My partner and I now have a stroke patient on board that we'll be working with for the next 3 months (which should be interesting!). Two hours into the first day back, my friend and I fell into a depressive spiral and had a mini panic attack. Literally a burnout from work overload.. the thought of it at least. I guess that's what happens when you get thrown back into uni after doing nothing but leisure.

Anywho.. I think I found my dose of relief.

Mm..

She fights evil by moonlight... win love by day light.. she's the one you can depend...

I'm up to episode 81 and it's great. Filled with corny moral speeches stating the obvious, time travel, magical powers energised by different planets, cute cats, cool weapons and some epic parenting moments. Re-living my childhood fixations!

Merlin Finale - The Diamond of the day (Part II)

This Christmas morning marked the ending to Merlin's five year journey. I'm guttered. You know the feeling you'd get when a beloved TV show you've been following for years ended..... and you kinda feel a sense of emptiness and ask yourself what you'll do with your life now. Yeah, that feeling.

I thought it was a decent ending, very emotional.. I cried... a lot. The bromance between Arthur and Merlin was impenetrable. My favourite scene was when Merlin confessed his identity as a sorcerer at Arthur's disgust. Granted Arthur now having knowledge of Merlin being the greatest sorcerer to walk the earth, Merlin carried on with his initial role and duties as Arthur's servant. While Arthur was dwelling on his feelings of betrayal, the bromance continued as Merlin explained his use of magic was for Arthur and Camelot only.

Even though the prophecy was revealed early in the season, I was surprised that they stayed true to it. Yet still, allowing small glimpse of hope. My heart dropped when Arthur died, I cried at the fact that his last words to Merlin was a simple "Thank you".

There were a few disappointments....

• How fast and easily Morgana was killed... I was expecting a magic war with Merlin.
• How clean Mordred and Arthur's swords were after they stabbed each other, not a spot of red. 
• Merlin didn't summon the dragon until after Arthur died...

Sequal?

I heard there is a possibility of a movie to give closure and to highlight Arthur's legacy playing out in modern day. 

Merlin - Season 5

Most of us are members of the "Guilty-shit-tv-movie" club. yours might be Gossip Girls, Jersey Shore, Twilight, Grey's Anatomy, Antelope porn, Justin Bieber: Never say Never, The Bill.... or any other terrible, awful, people vomit movies or TV shows.

Fortunately, I enjoy quality TV like Merlin, fantasy medieval fan and proud.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the funding bodies and increased budget in Merlin's most recent season.

I still loved the previous eps, even though they were as corny as a pedo's pickup-lines and one of the most anticipated end of series battle was signified by a baby tornado. I had to be mindful that Merlin was still a "young" wizard in those eps.

Before I go onto the pictures. I recently went to the Mad Spuds Cafe --- unfortunately my camera was no where to be present, I had the spuds stack and enjoyed it. Will be making a return trip to try their range of fruitful spuds!

Hobo Gloves

 This winter has been cruel and cold.
I found normal gloves to be slightly annoying and restricting when it comes to turning the volume down on my Ipod. These are perfect.

 In later new, I got one of my wisdom tooth out. Still a little bit numb, a bit of swelling but no bruising.
