Review: Benefit They're Real Mascara

It's been a while since I've been on Blogspot, had some stuff happening at home, now I'm trying hard to catch up with everyone's posts!

I received a couple of questions regarding the mascara I was using in my Canmake Palette Review with the following picture.

Well... I thought I'd might as well review the mascara ;)

Would you guys have guessed it was Benefit's They're Real?

Verdict

Pros
  • I've heard many raves and positive reviews for this product... it's not my HG smudge proof mascara (will review it later) but it's one of the better ones. I love the formula. I have watery eyes and I always get mascara residues transferred to my under eyes. This mascara's been quite good I've been using it everyday and have observed very minor smudges.
  • You don't need to layer, a generous coat will leave with nice looking lashes.
  • Holds curls and light weight.
Cons
  • Is it just me or does the brush look scary? The tip looks like a medieval spiked flail. The tip of the mascara doesn't work so well for me. I assume that it was designed for bottom lashes and hard to reach places, unfortunately, it's a little counter intuitive as you pull the brush out from the container, more product will sit at the tip of the brush.... having longer bristles enables more product to sit between bristles. As a result, it tends to dispense too much product onto my lashes. It takes a while for me to comb the lashes and even everything out.
  • As much as I love smudge proof mascaras, they are difficult to remove, I've been using Mary Kay's eye makeup remover, it's been working well but I find a lot of my lashes falling out.

Ok guys, if you haven't seen this Muppet trailer, you need to watch it! It's hilarious!

Masquerade Makeup breakdown and Photobooth Pictures

I went to my boyfriend's cousin's 21st masquerade party last weekend. A nice venue, bar tab, double tiered chocolate mudcake and a photobooth. Admittedly, it's been a while since I've attended a 21st as most of my friends are sprinting towards their mid 20s.

I couldn't help but to think back to my own 21st (click here) - a disaster by the way, I was carried home by three friends at 10pm with one too many long islands. Although I was mildly unconscious, I could hear them talk, "She looks skinny but she's so heavy!!! Let's take her shoes off and cut some weight"

Sometimes I wished that I had a conventional 21st..... venue, family, food, speeches and a dance floor.

Anywho, for this 21st, we "kind of" dressed up, boyfriend wore a batman mask and I wore some sparkly mask.

I had a lot of fun with this new found photobooth. I've heard legends of "the booth" at various parties... it was like the lockness monster to me, heard but never seen.

Here's a few of my favourite photos from the booth.

Now to the makeup breakdown...

Face
  • Shiseido Hydro liquid compact foundation
  • Revlon age defying concealer
Eyes
  • Shiseido shimmering cream eye colour in SV810
  • Shiseido eyelash curler
  • Benefit they're real mascara
Cheeks
  •  Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in Light
Lips
  • Klara Cosmetics kiss proof lips in 03

The actual colour is a lot darker and brighter than this.
The actual colour is a lot brighter and darker than this. More like a dark maroon-pink.

And my favourite teddy bear scarf :)

What did you do for your 21st?

Lust Have It! - April 2014

I think the May box is soon to be due. I received my April box yesterday because my renewal wasn't activated. I've been looking around blogs and read a mixture of reviews regarding this pack.

We bid our farewell to LHI's magnetic boxes, to be honest... I really liked them as storage boxes and I would prefer the boxes to the current cosmetic bag. I can't recycle the pvc bag and my zipper is not working too well.

Now onto the products....

 Glamourflage Lip/Cheek Stain
$21.95
Full size
I participated in the online form and initially asked for the face primer. I was notified that the primer was out of stock so I received the lip/cheek tint instead. I'm not too fussed. I'm actually quite happy that I received the tint instead, I've been reading some negative reviews for the primer.

Claytime 100% Pure Mineral Bronzer
$29.95
Limited Edition - Full Size

Lots of controversy going on around the size of this product!!! 3g vs 10g, f/s vs not f/s....I thought I was gonna receive a tiny bronzer no bigger than a 20c coin, but this is quite decent. The powder is filled to the brim, however, I probably wouldn't pay $29.95 for it. I went to David Jones yesterday and La Prairie is selling a 30ml foundation for $235.... hmm I guess price tags are relative concepts. Anywho... I love my bronzers so I'm looking forward to try this.

Wotnot Facial Wipes
Sample Size

Bioderma Nourishing Cream
Sample Size

I've lost count on how times I have received Wotnot sample wipes and Bioderma face creams. Don't mind it, but would prefer to try something new.

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion
Sample Size

I was really excited to receive this pack last month, but after seeing the content for a couple of weeks the novelty wore off. I still thought this was a good box. I am very excited about the Mary Kay lip lacquer for May! I picked Chai Latte :D What did you pick?

Review: The Grounds of Alexandria

We made our way to The Grounds a couple of weeks ago. I have heard so much hype for this hidden gem and I must say, it's well deserved.

The place was packed, even on a rainy day!

As you make your way inside, you'll see an indoor restaurant  and a courtyard where you can order your food and dine alfresco style. The restaurant was overly crowded so we picked the courtyard.

You'd order and pay at one side of the courtyard, then pick up from the other side. I'd suggest you to take a brisk walk around the place prior to ordering.

Yes! They tempt you with delicious baked goods at the ordering counter!!

Smashed Avocado $9

Tomato, feta, chilli & mint on sourdough

This was our healthy alternative. You'd get to sauce your meal at the pickup counter. I have no idea which sauce we poured on but it was tasty! With the combination of avocado, feta and tomato, as you would expect, the texture was a little mushy. I think this could do with more chilli.... nice... but not enough flavour for me. Maybe I'll put more sauce on next time.

My boyfriend got the drink on the left... I'm not sure what it's called .. but it was quite sour
I had the Coconut Kale to you right, it's a mixture of coconut juice, kale, almond, banana and berries. You can really taste the banana and berries.... and unfortunately the seeds from the berries as well. I couldn't really taste the coconut juice. Nonetheless, it was quite nice.

Beer Battered Chips $5

Tip top chips with a crunch! Loved it!

Field Mushroom Roll $10
Rocket mizuna tomato and feta

This was a surprise winner.  Lots of flavour from the rocket, a great combination overall. Lots of oil. I'd probably recommend the smash avocado for all my health conscious friends out there. This would be highly recommended for all the oil and flavour lovers.

I wanted dessert/pastries afterwards, but we got really full, really quickly.
Below are some pictures we took as we walked around. They had a little area where they kept Kevin Bacon and co. We will be getting their lemonade next time!

A great variety at The Grounds, the atmosphere was casual and enjoyable. This is great place to chill with your friends and family. The Grounds has so much to offer, it's a place where you'll just have to go back for a second bite!

We definitely will be making our way back soon!
