Looking back, its been two years since my graduation, I often reflect on exactly what the hell did I learn while I was at university because all I remember is skipping class, having lunch and hanging out with friends. My first degree was in Psychology and second in Occupational Therapy (because I couldn't find a job with just a B.psych), both were from Universities within Sydney. I've spent many days on campus, so what did I learn?

Once you start working, kiss goodbye to that sweet 2.5-3 months break, those are unicorns that will only pop up if you are unemployed, switching between jobs, injured, getting married, having a baby or retired.

In the real world we get 4 paid weeks off per year to on holidays. I was a workaholic throughout uni and worked throughout semesters and every uni break - BIG MISTAKE. Treasure those breaks and travel... you will have the rest of your life to work.

Uni books are ridiculously expensive, half the time they are probably unnecessary and will be outdated in 6 months time (the authors keep coming up with newer editions to rack in the money). I ensured to purchase second hand books and re-sell those books... or... just sucked it up and spent some time at the photocopy machine.

$40 VS $120... you do the maths.

I learnt a truckload of theory that I wont be able to apply to the world outside of University. Psychology taught me a lot of social theories which provided me a better insight of why people do certain things... but unless I become a Neurologist, my colleagues will not care about neurons synapse. I did not gain any exposure to practical components in my psych degree.

My occupational therapy degree had a lot of practical components (whether it was field work, playing with cadavers, making a splint or manual muscle testing - it saved my ass). I enjoyed class (the ones I went to anyway - I was notorious for skipping class for work), the teachers challenged me to think laterally and stop being so naive, it's wasn't all bad.

This really depending on what degree it is and what you hope to get out of it. Unless you are looking to do honours and/or PHD, then you better keep a tab on your grades. The real world does not differentiate between someone who has failed 5 subjects and someone who graduated with a distinction average.

When I started my job as a graduate two years ago, I thought I had the solution to all questions. My grades fuelled my ego, making me delusional and believing that I was exceptional. Heck, I had to start from the beginning just like everyone else.

I learned that study life is not everything, it doesn't matter whether someone has a degree (or 10), a diploma, high school certificate, home schooled or never received an education, we all have strengths and weaknesses, we are all as amazing as Ryan Reynolds and his tight fitting spandex.

Everyday No Foundation Makeup Look

For the past couple of weeks I decided to rock the no foundation look. Particularly in this heat, I felt that foundation was clinging onto my skin and suffocating my face. It's ironic because I am not very confident in my own skin and I usually can't leave the house without foundation. Every pore, spot, mark, acne scar and freckle must be covered before I leave the house.

Although I still need my pores to be covered and some more prominent spots to be masked, I guess this is the transitioning look to make me feel more comfortable in my own skin.

I NEVER leave the house without SPF, I usually SPF every part of my body that will be exposed to the sun. Sunsense is my go to brand, I used Sunsense Daily Face SPF 50+ for the look,  I'm almost done with this sunscreen and it is fab for dry skin. I can't wait to move onto my next Sunsense facial product!

Although this is a no foundation look, I am still self conscious of my pores, spots, hormonal acne and scarring. I haven't nurtured my skin to the point where I feel comfortable walking out without covering the aforementioned. As a result, I'd either use a bit of CC cream , Garnier Perfect Blur or any products of the like to cover my pore-ish areas.. which happen to be around the centre of my cheeks.

I used Bloom's Secret Weapon Concealer Kit to cover under eye circles, redness and prominent spots. This is such a great compact kit with colour correctors, it's small enough for travel and your hand bag.

For the past couple of months, I've been constantly reaching for Colour Theory's Blush in Cheeky Glow, it's pigmented enough to show up nicely on my skin, but it's not overly pigmented to the degree where I cannot swirl my brush in the pan without looking like a clown. This blush creates a naturally flushed look that I love.

In order for my makeup to stay put and my oily T-zone to remain matte, I used Williamspro Zero Powder, another great product that I've been using interchangeably with my Bobbi Brown Sheer Pressed Powder.

EYES AND BROWS (sneaky contour)

I kept my eyes simple, mainly due to some sensitivity issues lately. Loreal Colour Infailliable in Purple Obsession was applied along my upper and bottom lash lines, this is just to give my eyes a bit of a boost and to hide those puffy under eye bags.

Brows was never a thing for me, until I received Rimmel Brow This Way kit I used the wax, sparingly on my brows and the powdery dark brown colour to contour my nose (see video below).

One product wonder, the only and only NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu, a beautifully moisturising gloss that smells good enough to eat!! This is a very natural shade that is pretty much the same colour as my lips but for some reason I am still quite attached to this particular gloss.

From a far, my face looks like I'd have an adequate amount of makeup on my face, but in the close up shot, you can still see some of the blemishes and freckles on my nose and side of my cheeks. I think I'm starting to embrace these spots - however, I'm not looking to house any more orphan freckles!! There's not enough room on my nose!

Fountain La Molecule Phyto-Collagene and The Hyaluronic Molecule Review

Beauty supplements is a bit of a novelty for me, I don't take any health related supplements and I certainly have never taken beauty supplements. My skin is far from being great, I have a million little pores and freckles on my cheeks - some may have morphed into one.. porkles. Acne scars, puffy under eyes, fine lines on my forehead and emerging tiny lines under my right eye.

My skin has been tested twice, on both occasions I've been told that my skin is incredibly dehydrated. I'm always cautious about taking supplements, or random products that's not provided by my doctor.

But... after reading a few different reviews I took a leap of faith and decided to give both products a go with hopes of unlocking better skin.

PRODUCT INFORMATION (Extracted from Fountain's Website)

La Molecule Phyto-Collagene $77
  • Contains 5000mg of hydrolysed collagen in each serving.
  • Contains marine wild phytoplankton, these bad boys have over 65 nutritional properties ideal for batting pre-mature ageing.
  • L-Glutathione is believed to be one of the most important and effective antioxidants. L-Glutathione levels drop and becomes less stable as we age, leading to pre-mature ageing. Each two-teaspoon serving provides 65mg of l-glutathione.
  • Contains vegan-friendly Hyaluronic Acid.
  • Fountain's formula is free of artificial colours and flavours and is suitable for both adult men and women.
The Hyaluronic Molecule $68
  • This formula contains a high concentrations (130mg/2 teaspoons) of Hyaluronic Acid.
  • Sweetened with natural Xylitol which also contributes to dental health.
  • This formula is a vegan-friendly source of pure food-grade Hyaluronic Acid. The high viscosity of the product is from the high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid.
  • The formula is free of artificial colours and flavours and is suitable for both adult men and women.

My Verdict

The Hyaluronic Molecule
I didn't mind the flavour, it's quit sweet and zangy. The high viscosity texture took some getting use to ... I guess I could've blended into my juices and food but I was too lazy!
I consumed two teaspoons per day, although I was naughty and skipped a day here and there... still pretty consistent most days. The whole bottle took approximately 2.5-3 months to finish.
I had high hopes for this product after reading several extremely positive reviews. Now the million dollar question... DID IT WORK? I really don't know... Unfortunately, unlike the reviews I have read, my skin did not glow after a month of intake and did not receive any compliments on the appearance of my skin :( My lines, pores and the whole shebang were all there. My skin did break out a couple of weeks after my overdose on chocolates + various other junk over the Christmas/New Year. Lately, my skin has been good and looking even... I'm not sure if that's the Hyaluronic supplement taking effect or the fact that I've been pretty active and changed in my diet.

The fact that I did skip a day of intake every now and then may have affected the overall outcome, but I can't say for certain - I did end up finishing the whole bottle though.

La Molcule Phyto-Collagene

Unfortunately I was unable to trial this product, it's been sitting in my pantry for a few months, I decided to give it a go since I finished my Hyaluronic bottle. I poured a dose to my teaspoon and was surprised that it was not a gel-like consistency, rather it was very watery even after I had given the bottle a shake. I drank it anyway, and it tasted off, bitter and extremely sour - kinda like off young coconut water.

It smelt off and tasted off, so I quickly tipped the content out before I could even take a photo (sorry guys). The use by date was not until later this year and I did not open it. I'm assuming it may have been the heat in my pantry from the intermittent scorcher Sydney weather. If you have a bottle in your pantry, you might want to put it in the fridge.

I was really upset that this happened to my bottle *cry* I had high hopes since I wasn't quite sure whether the Hyaluronic formula worked on me, perhaps a collagen boost would be effective. Ahhh such is life. BUT.. I'm trying a few other products from DECIEM and I can tell you now that I love them! So stay tuned!

Have you tried any beauty supplements? Did it work?

February 18th 2016 is a day that I will remember, when Westfield Chatswood opened it's doors I made my way in. All it took was a dude standing outside Mecca giving out pink lollypops. Mecca's got it's marketing on point. Not to mention their spin and win giveaway. I'm not usually in Chatswood, but I just happened to be in the area for work that day. It was meant to be.

I still can't believe that I've never shopped at Mecca, receiving my Beauty Loop card was something else. The whole experience was euphoric... and slightly addictive.

I wondered around and wasn't sure what I should get. I was convinced that I'd probably walk out with an Urban Decay Naked palette, or something from Hourglass. That was before I wondered over to Josie Maran's shelf of eco-friendly and naturally based beauty products. I had my eyes on their stick concealer and powder foundation. Unfortunately, none of the stick concealers matched my skin tone so the consultant offered me to look at Bare Minerals Bareskin Concealer ($29) and I was sold.

I did a couple of more laps around the store and ended back at Josie Maran's shelf with Josie Maran's Argan Matchmaker Power Foundation ($44) in my basket. Josie Maran's line is known for her use of natural and organic ingredients so I thought I'd give it a go and take a break from talc and parabens. I am slightly annoyed that Josie's products are cheaper in the US and often has generous discounts - but they don't ship to Australia *cry cry cry*

Tested my luck at the spin and win and picked up my first NARS product, a beautiful Nars Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo. A lot of firsts going on here. A girl won a $250 Mecca gift voucher and there was a lot of screaming!

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and wining. It was a bit of a pick-me-up during a crazy busy week. I still need to pop my Sephora cherry, I know, my self control is insane.

What was your last Mecca purchase?

Rimmel The Only One Lipsticks Review and Swatches

Since my hair cut, I've been more and more experimental with makeup, even though am naturally attracted to dull and deeper shades. Colour therapy is effective! I've been feeling a little overwhelmed with work, blogging and struggling to get a hold of companies I am dying to work with. Sleep has been disrupted as I have been getting up at 5-6am to tapper away on my laptop because I have a billion things I need to do at work and I'm so behind! The struggle is real!

Life was getting to me, and lipsticks picked me up.

About Rimmel The Only One Lipsticks

  • Vibrant, intense and high impact colours
  • Glide on application with light weight texture
  • Contains Rosa Fruit Oil leaves and Vitamin E infused moisture
  • Long lasting wear with advance polymers to set the formula
  • Lipstick is available in 12 shades
  • Rimmel also introduced 3 new shades to their Exaggerate Full Colour lip liner range
Price: $15.95

Available from Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Target, Kmart, Big W and selected pharmacies and selected Coles and Woolworth.

My Verdict

  • Three ticks for pigmentation, boy are these lippies pigmented!!! The colour actually look like what's on the bullet, although I found It's a Keeper and Naughty Nude to be slightly more sheer on my lips (possibly because it's close to the shade of my lips?).

  • These lipsticks are so easy and smooth to apply, they literally glide on my lips. The formula is indeed creamy and light-weight. It was actually so creamy that some of the product broke off (happened with Pink a Punch in the video below).

  • All shades possessed a fairly fruity scent that's quite pleasant and refreshing. I am a scent person and I loved this element!

  • I've been wearing these to work, my lips feels super moist upon application, however after a couple of hours my lips start to feel a bit dry. But then again, my lips are naturally ridiculously dry so I had to coat my lips with a balm every now and then. When compared to Rimmel's Lasting Finish Kate Nude Lipsticks, the moisturisation properties are better in The Only One Lipsticks.

  • Longevity wise, the brighter shades are longer wearing than colours like Naughty Nude. I wore Peachy Beachy on a day out and to lunch, there was still had a decent amount of residual colour on my lips, I was quite happy with the aftermath.

  • With my light-medium olive skin, I was able to wear all the shades except for Pink a Punch. Best of the Best made my teeth look exceptionally white; It's a Keeper and Naughty Nudes are very similar to the shades I usually wear. Peachy Beachy is outside my comfort zone but it gives me an unexpected boost, wasn't too sure about it initially, but it is now my favourite out of the lot.

Valentine's Day Look || 2016

Following my Valentine's Day Gift Guide, you probably would have read that Valentine's Day is not a day that I usually celebrate, occasionally my partner would give me a hand-made card with corny slogans and jokes.. like "You're Saucy" written on a tomato sauce shaped card that's been intricately put together. My mindset shifted this year, since I have enough red lipsticks for a lifetime that I rarely ever wear, I thought heck, lets celebrate this Hallmark holiday just so that I can put some red on my lips!

I am still madly in love with Rimmel's Match Perfection Foundation, it's been my go-to foundation that is perfect for summer. It's also the only foundation I have that matches my skin perfectly at the moment.

For eyes and brows, I decided to keep it simple. I am a lover of natural un-filled brows (don't ask me why) so I used Colour Theory's Eye Brow Tweezer - Scissor Style fantastic for pulling out short brows growing in unwanted territories.

Maybelline Colour Molton in Nude Rush was gently applied all over the eye lids. Since I'm doing a conventional red lips, I decided not to do a back cat flick, alternatively Eye of Horus Goddess Pencil in Jewel Amethyst was able to supply a very subtle pop of colour while still providing definition to my eyes. Purple is such a great colour! I curled my lashes using Colour Theory's Eyelash Curler and a few generous coats of Colour Theory's Mascara.

I couldn't go past Colour Theory's Blush in Dollhouse it's such a gorgeous pop of cotton candy on my cheeks. This particular shade reminds me of MAC's Blush in Dollymix - I still remember how insanely popular Dollymix was almost a decade ago.

Now the hard part, which red?!

Below, I have four shades of red from Colour Theory: Catwalk , Show Stopper, Siren and Red-y-or not. I started my day with Red-y-or-not and decided that I wanted a deeper red later in the day, or I went over my lips with Catwalk.

Left to Right:   Catwalk , Show Stopper, Siren, Red-y-or not

Top to bottom: Catwalk , Show Stopper, Siren, Red-y-or not

To ensure that I don't leave the house feeling like a prickly pear, I relied on Schicks Hydro Silk Trimstyle. Since receiving this product, I've actually thrown out all my cheap disposable razors  that often rust after a week. This product has been used for 3 months and going strong!!

Oh and make sure you shave and do everything else before you paint your nails!

We are almost done! For nails I used Colour Theory Red Delicious and a coat of Faby Top and Base coat. The next day I decided that my nails looked a little bit boring with a single colour so I added a little bit of Maybelline Color Show in Alley Attitude.

Don't neglect your toes! I used Colour Theory's Toe Separators for an easy application. Once everything is painted, I went over each nail with Colour Theory Cuticle Oil.

If you want to amp up this Valentine's Day business, there are three optional body accessories from Factorie for you to think about. First up, we have Factorie's Temporary Tattoos, I don't have any tattoos but I am absolutely head over heels in love, tattoos are available in gold, silver, black, blue and rose gold!

Alternatively you can pimp up your face with Factorie's Face Jewels, my close friend is getting married at the end of the year, I have never been to a Hindu wedding, so I'm prepping myself and feeling the bindi spirit.

If you are hair girl, I'd highly recommend Factorie's Hair Chalk, I still can't believe that it works on my jet black hair. These babies are super easy to apply as the chalks sit in a plastic combing device, no more stained fingers!

Factorie Temporary Tattoo

Factorie Face Jewel

Factorie Hair Chalk

I had a lot of fun putting this together, even though that selfie took about 30 takes!
I hope you enjoyed it too, whether you celebrate Valentine's or not, find an excuse to wear some red lipstick this weekend!

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift Guide

If you are after a last minute present for your loved one, I've put together a nifty little guide, just in time to wow your partner this Saturday! For those of you who don't celebrate Valentine's, it's probably time to reward your partner for being a fab pal and making you breakfast in bed *hint hint*.

I know the usual guides are gender focused, well I want mine to be gender free (or I'll try my best!) - my partner and I are both advocates for gender equality, we hate that pink is associated to girls and blue to boys, why can't boys wear pink and vice versa?

Rant over, lets start!

Now you're probably thinking, hang on! How can this be gender-free?! This is for all the face shavers out there, I use to work with a lady who shaved her face, initially she was extremely embarrassed, eventually she learned to embrace this ritual and often spoke to us about her fancy shaving gadgets. I present to you the amazing tool above, Remington Hyperflex Shave & Trim* ($199), the name speaks for itself.

Who doesn't love some good skincare? Since I started beauty blogging ALL the men in our family started to cleanse, moisturise and use bath bombs - including my 82 y.o grandfather. If you are not too sure what to get, try Meet Dermalogica, it is perfect as a travel kit or an introductory set to Dermalogica. Dermalogica also have similar starter kits for different skin type for approximately $54.

I can't talk skincare without some beautiful pampering products from Trilogy - this is perfect if you are into natural skincare... or live near Priceline. Start off with Trilogy Mineral Radiance Mask* ($29.95) and prep your skin with Trilogy Hydrating Mist Toner* ($26.95), finish off by letting your skin soak in Trilogy Very Gentle Calming Serum* ($42.95). Again, these products are suitable for all gender and ages.

I didn't forget all the Salon lovers, Vaniday is offering gift cards (for him and her) starting from $25 to use at any salon or spa across  the platform throughout Sydney and Melbourne. I had my first day spa experience late last year (I know, I live under a rock), and it was a bliss. Trust me, your partner will love you for it!

I've picked out two gorgeous fragrances, first is Calvin Klein's CK2* ($79-$99) an amazing genderless fragrance that will leave you wanting more, you can share this one with your partner, a squirt for you a squirt for them. If he really want his own fragrance, don't fret, David Beckham's Aqua Classic* ($34.99) is your go to fragrance, it is a fresh, woody yet sweet scent - girls, you can definitely steal this to wear.

If you've always wanted sleek and slim matching watches, check out these adorable looking Boyfriend Watches from Factorie ($24.95), alternatively, it's summer and the Australian sun is a killer, a hat is practical right? Below we have two trendy hats from Factorie (Top: Bloater Hat $24.95 Bottom: Woodlands Hat $29.95)

If all fails, there's always a leather wallet, especially if your partner is difficult to shop for. This flawless Oscar Brown Leather Wallet ($59) is more of a "typically masculine" looking wallet and it may be considered an odd present to give to your girlfriend.. but I guess that depends on who your girlfriend is, I personally had a simple black leather wallet similar to the one below for many years (until I decided to introduce some colour in my life).

Source: Fan Art by @Stitchimonsta

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, this one is for all the superhero lovers!!!! Deadpool (aka the most anticipated movie this Feb) is now in cinemas. It's a win-win gift even if you are not a Marvel fan, you'll have Ryan Reynold to drool at... a not particularly attractive looking Reynold.. doesn't matter.. Remember, if you have NRMA insurance, you can get NRMA Tix and save up to 35% on your movie tickets (Can't believe I only recently discovered this).

Hopefully you found something suitable to gift your partner this Valentine's (or if you don't celebrate it.. a treat for the weekend!). Stay tuned for my V-Day FOTD post!

*These products were provided for my consideration, a massive thank you to all contributing brands to make this post possible.

About Stay Lean Tea

Stay Lean Tea Detox Program contains 2 different blends with key ingredient, Longjing Green Tea Leaf - a rare leaf jam packed with antioxidants, amino acids and vitamins. Stay Lean Tea is designed to stimulate fat loss while replenishing your body with nutrients.

As per information extracted from Stay Lean Tea's website, the process can be broken down into three phases:
  • The Lean Cleanse blend detoxifies your digestive system by eliminating toxins within the digestive tract.
  • As these toxins are removed nutrient absorption is enhanced and the body starts to burn calories at a faster rate.
  • With a replenished digestive system the Lean Burner blend kickstarts the metabolism and facilitates fat oxidation.
Also extracted from Stay Lean Tea's website, the 14 Day Detox program helps to:
  • Give the metabolism a huge boost
  • Burn fat and excess calories while at rest
  • Suppress appetite over a sustained period of time
  • Remove toxins from the digestive tract
  • Enhance nutrient absorption
  • Reduce bloating and water retention
  • Increase energy levels and boost the immune system

Stay Lean Tea does not contain any laxatives.

Lean Burner

Longjing Green Leaf, Pu'erh Tea Leaf, Oolong Leaf, Lotus Leaf, Lemon Grass, Dandelion Leaf, Goji Berry.

Lean Cleanse

Chamomile, Chrysanthemum, Rose Flower, Lavender, Roselle, Lemon Grass, Longjing Green Leaf

Lean Burner

Lean Cleanse

My Verdict
  • I drink a fair amount of tea on my days off, and I personally prefer tea bags over loose tea leaves (mainly due to laziness). I was really happy to see pyramid tea bags that allowed me to see exactly what's in the bags (not that I can differentiate one tea leaf from the other).

  • The instructions were easy to follow and easy to adhere to on the weekends. I'd have a cup of Lean Burner every morning and a cup of Lean Cleanse every second afternoon. However, the procedure proved to be a little bit more difficult during work days as my work requires me to travel all over Sydney. I am always on the road, on the go and spend a lot of time working remotely in cafes. I did end up having to pre-make my tea in a large water bottle. If you are an office worker - this would be hassle free.
  • Lean Burner tastes like a mixture of goji with green tea, very easy to drink. I drink a fair amount of goji tea (Mum said it's good for my eyes, especially since I'm on the computer quite frequently). Lean Cleanser had more of a floral scent and taste, it was really pleasant! I do have a tiny issue with the length of the tea bag string, it's a little bit too short, especially with my heavy handed water pouring techniques.

  • Initially I was extremely concerned about drinking this on the road (as toilets, well clean toilets are not always available. I've taken laxative once and I never want to go near that stuff ever again). Let me re-assure you, I did not experience any sudden toilet moments. I did pass out a fair amount of liquid since I drink large quantities of water and tea... and .. well there's no diplomatic way to put it but bowel movement was much easier.
  • I did end of drinking more than 1 cup of the tea on a daily basis so that filled me up and minimised my unhealthy food intake, i.e., too full for dessert or snacks. So in that respect, alongside "smooth toileting", healthy eating (during the week) and 20 sit ups per night, I did notice some muffin top reductions haha. It felt like a bit of a detox for me, flushing out all the nasty stuff, my skin never looked better! I personally did not lose any weight in 14 days but I did feel less bloated. Although I personally don't feel that this weight loss method will be effective for everyone, it is a very safe and healthy solution - as always, you will still need to incorporate some self-control and exercise.

Overall, being persistent in drinking two types of different tea in a day had proven to be quite difficult for me, especially with my line of work which is quite unpredictable. But the tea tastes great and I probably wouldn't mind having a packed or two at home to enjoy on a regular basis.

Stay Lean Tea's 14 Day Detox Program is currently on sale for $39, a 28 day program is also available. Click here to shop. Remember to enter "botrc10" at checkout to receive a 10% discount.
