Review: Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation

I won  2 tickets to see Love & Mercy a couple of weeks ago, after seeing a few ads on TV my partner and I decided to hit Dendys. To be honest, I didn't know too much about Brian Wilson or The Beach Boys prior to seeing this movie. I'd often associate The Beach Boys with Cadbury or The Good Guys - very very guilty.[MINOR SPOILER ALERT] Let me just say that after seeing the movie, I appreciate The Beach Boys a LOT more, the movie provided a lot of insight into Brian Wilson's private life, he was a sheer musical genius with a very dark life. The story telling was captivating and provided synchronicity between Brian's experience as a young adult (music and early onsets of Schizophrenia) and how his mental illness with surrounding factors impacted his mid adult life. Elizabeth Banks stole the movie, I've only ever seen her play minor roles in Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games, she sure did show off her talent in this movie.

If you're going to see a movie this week, I highly recommend Love & Mercy... now onto the foundation review!

My Verdict

- The packaging of the foundation is slender, classy and overall luxurious, instead of your usual plastic bottle, you get a nice heavy glass bottle.
- I really liked the application wand, the amount of foundation on the wand will cover your whole face, the product spreads and blends exceptionally well. In fact, not much blending is required, definitely fits their slogan "fine as ink" - not that I know what fine ink feels like on my face. IMHO - it glides like elemental mercury (not that you should be using mercury on your skin).
- It provides medium to high coverage, concealer is a thing of the past with this foundation, my blemishes, under eye bags and scars were gone while most of my pores were very well covered.
- Not sure about the 24hr wear, I don't think I've ever worn a foundation for that long, but it definitely lasted at least 7 hours (a night out - long night).
- Not recommended for dry skin, it really brought out the little flakes on my nose, I can't use this product on or around my nose during winter. It will look flawless on normal/oily skin.
- Not recommended for flash photography, I looked really washed out.
- This foundation is 5ml less than the standard 30ml foundation, yet the price-tag is exponential compared to my usual foundations. The most expensive foundation I have are approximately $40-$50 from Shiseido/Clinique - and I thought they were pretty good. Never have I had the luxury of putting on a whooping $85 foundation. This foundation is expensive.

  1. I cant wait to see the Beach Boys movie! Im a huge fan!! This looks gorgeous, I prefer foundations in glass, they tend to smell less plasticky :) Certainly a luxurious choice, I might try and get a sample when I'm out next :)

  2. I could never spend that much on a foundation either! (Yay for Beautyheaven!). I'm trialling the Estee Lauder Double Wear (free sample) but I usually use Revlon Colorstay. I don't think I've ever tried a high end one, it would certainly be fun though! :)

  3. That is a really expensive foundation, and I have the same issue around the nose! I usually stick to more hydrating foundation lately to avoid the flakes ;)

  5. I love the packaging so much! But it sucks about flash photography, I hate it when you get an expensive foundation and it makes you look pale in photos!! Love the review Lily!

  10. Great review Lily! The packaging looks super luxurious and the wand looks great. Seems like my kind of foundation but I find the price tag a bit steep! Maybe one day :)
I'm using EL double wear atm, I thought it was expensive at $50 but now it seems a lot cheaper haha!
